What browser should I use?
There are five main web browsers on the market each with their own unique style all available for free. Most people are familiar with the browser that came with the computer they own but the alternatives may give you a better experience when surfing the Internet.
What is a web browser? When you look at web pages you are using a browser of some sort, it is an application on your computer, smartphone or tablet that allows you to view and interact with web sites.
If you have a Windows based computer you will have Microsoft Internet Explorer, The Mac has Safari and Linux has Konqueror. You can have multiple web browsers on your computer to try out and see which one you prefer.
The basic list is as follows:
- Internet Explorer - Microsoft - Currently version 9.0
- Firefox - Mozilla Foundation - version 6.0
- Safari - Apple Computer - version 5.1
- Chrome - Google - version 13.0
- Opera - Opera Software ASA - version 11.51
Don't forget to update your current browser!
Current versions of your web browser give added stability, benefits and features and bring higher security to your surfing not to mention faster browsing, so you would be well advised to keep your browser updated. The Internet is changing very rapidly with websites created to give you a more interactive and pleasant experience. Thats why web browsers have to keep up with the new web standards such as CSS3 and HTML5 which they all do to varying degrees.
Security is also very very important to allow you to go to websites and feel safe that there are no harmful links and elements on the page that may make your computer vulnerable. Web surfing safety is a whole different topic and needs to be addressed especially with the large ammount of emails coming into our inboxes with links to phishing sites.
My favourite is Firefox which allows me to browse the Internet with each webpage in a tab rather than each page open in a new window. Tabbed browsing is available in all the major web browsers now with variations on how they are implemented, in my opinion Firefox gives me the best experience closely followed by Chrome, find out which is best for you.
Try a different web browser and see if your experience improves but above all make sure you are running the latest version to ensure you have a safe fast and full surfing experience.
